The bill amends Section 45-21-54 of the General Laws concerning the reemployment of retired municipal employees. It allows any peace officer, as defined in 12-7-21, working in a Rhode Island school as a full or part-time school resource officer to work in excess of seventy-five (75) working days in a calendar year without an interruption in their receipt of pension benefits. This exemption applies specifically when they are working private details funded by nongovernmental entities.

The bill clarifies that retired members who continue working beyond the seventy-five-day threshold will not receive pension credit for that extra service and will not be required to make pension contributions. It also maintains that retired members can serve as elected city or town council members or school committee members while still receiving their retirement allowance for other services. The act is set to take effect upon passage.
