The bill amends Section 45-21-54 of the General Laws regarding the reemployment of retired municipal employees. It increases the number of days a retired member can work in a calendar year without interruption of their pension benefits from seventy-five (75) days to ninety (90) days. If a retired member exceeds this ninety-day limit, their pension payments will be suspended, and they will not be eligible for pension credit or required to make contributions for any additional service beyond this period. This ninety-day rule does not apply to police officers, as defined in 28-9.2-3, who continue in service beyond the ninety-day period. The act also clarifies that retired members can serve as elected city or town council members or school committee members while still receiving their retirement allowance for other services. The act is set to take effect upon passage.
