The bill amends Chapter 37-8 of the General Laws, titled "Public Buildings," by adding a new section, 37-8-9.1, which authorizes the painting of portraits for each president of the senate, including former presidents. The secretary of state is tasked with commissioning these portraits as soon as a new president of the senate is inducted into office. Upon completion, the portraits are to be delivered to the department of administration for display in the senate lounge or a nearby location.
Furthermore, the bill authorizes the state controller to issue payments for the portraits from the treasury, provided that the funds are not otherwise appropriated and that vouchers are approved by the secretary of state. This act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
