The bill amends Section 17-15-1 of the General Laws in Chapter 17-15, which pertains to primary elections. It requires that if the eighth Tuesday preceding biennial state elections falls on the day after Labor Day, the primary election shall instead be held on the following Wednesday. The bill also specifies that all related processes and deadlines for candidate nomination, challenges, objections, hearings, withdrawals, vacancies, and certifications will be calculated as if the primary election were still held on the original Tuesday. This act will take effect immediately upon passage and does not change any other deadlines established in Title 17.
