The bill amends Section 31-6-8 of the General Laws in Chapter 31-6, which pertains to registration fees for disabled veterans. It introduces new eligibility criteria for veterans to qualify for an exemption from the annual registration fee for motor vehicles. Specifically, it includes veterans who are seventy-five (75) years of age or older with a combined service-connected disability rating of seventy percent (70%). Additionally, it maintains the existing provisions for veterans who have a combined service-connected disability rating of one hundred percent (100%) or who are considered individually unemployable due to their service-connected disabilities.

The bill also stipulates that eligible veterans will receive registration plates designated as Disabled Veteran for their vehicles. Upon the death of the holder of these plates, they may be transferred to the surviving spouse for their lifetime or until remarriage. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
