The bill amends Section 17-15-1 of the General Laws in Chapter 17-15, which pertains to primary elections. It establishes that if the eighth Tuesday preceding biennial state elections falls on the day after Labor Day, the primary election will instead be held on the following Wednesday. The bill also clarifies that all related processes and deadlines for candidate nomination, challenges, objections, hearings, withdrawals, vacancies, and certifications will be calculated as if the primary election occurred on the original Tuesday. This provision does not change any other deadlines established in Title 17. The act will take effect immediately upon passage.
