The bill amends Section 9-29-9 of the General Laws in Chapter 9-29, which pertains to the fees charged by sheriffs, sergeants, and constables. It introduces a new title for the section, "Fees of sheriffs, sergeants, and constables," and establishes a minimum fee of seventy dollars ($70.00) for serving all other writs, citations, or subpoenas not specified in subsection (a) of this section. The previous fee of $70 for serving these documents is removed, and the new language clarifies that the minimum fee required shall not be less than $70. The fees for serving writs of replevin, out-of-state papers, and writs of arrest remain at $100, while other fees for writ copies and returns when the defendant cannot be found are also specified. Additionally, the bill clarifies that the fees collected will be deposited as general revenue. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
