The resolution honors Karen McGrath, who is retiring after a distinguished forty-five-year career in Rhode Island public libraries, with thirty-nine of those years spent as the branch librarian at the Auburn branch of the Cranston Public Library. Karen holds a Master of Library Science from Simmons College and has made significant contributions to the community, including the establishment of the Books @ Home program in 1996, which has provided library materials to homebound patrons for nearly three decades. Her dedication to the library profession is further evidenced by her roles as a Trustee at the Tyler Free Library, a long-standing member of the Rhode Island Library Association (RILA), and her service on the RILA conference committee for twenty years.
The resolution expresses gratitude for Karen's dedicated service to Rhode Island libraries and acknowledges her national recognition by the American Library Association for her work with the Books @ Home program, as well as her receipt of RILA’s Service Award in 2013. The Senate of the State of Rhode Island extends heartfelt best wishes to Karen for her retirement and directs the Secretary of State to transmit a certified copy of the resolution to her.
