The Rhode Island House of Representatives has introduced a resolution to proclaim June 2025 as "Portuguese American Heritage Month" in the state. This initiative recognizes the significant contributions of the Portuguese American community to Rhode Island's cultural, economic, and social landscape since colonial times. The resolution highlights the vibrant presence of Portuguese Americans in various cities across the state and acknowledges their role in shaping Rhode Island's history through cultural events, community engagement, and participation in public service.

The month of June is particularly significant as it coincides with Portugal's National Day on June 10th, honoring the legacy of the national poet, Luís de Camões. The resolution also pays tribute to historical landmarks and figures within the Portuguese American community, such as the Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Providence and the Touro Synagogue in Newport, which symbolize the enduring impact of Portuguese immigration. The resolution calls for certified copies to be sent to various officials, including the Governor of Rhode Island and the Prime Minister of Portugal, to further acknowledge and celebrate this heritage.

Introduced by Representatives Solomon, Noret, Fellela, Craven, Donovan, Hull, and Cruz, the bill was introduced on June 5 and has been referred to the House, where it has been read and passed.
