The bill amends Chapter 45-53 of the General Laws, titled "Low and Moderate Income Housing," by adding a new section, 45-53-17, specifically for the town of Tiverton. This new section allows the town to require additional testing to be performed by developers for any private or public wells in close proximity to construction sites. The purpose of this testing is to ensure that nearby wells are not adversely affected by dewatering or loss of effective recharge during the construction of low- or moderate-income housing. This condition must be satisfied prior to the commencement of construction.

The testing must comply with all regulations issued by the Department of Environmental Management and the Department of Health. Additionally, the Department of Environmental Management is authorized to issue rules and regulations to implement the requirements of this section. The bill will take effect upon passage.
