The Rhode Island House of Representatives has introduced a resolution to honor and celebrate "Armed Forces Day" on May 17th, 2025. This day, established by President Harry S. Truman in 1949, is observed annually on the third Saturday in May to recognize the service of all members of the United States Armed Forces, including the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Space Force. As of 2023, over 1.32 million active personnel and approximately 766,044 reserve personnel serve the nation, often facing life-threatening situations and making significant sacrifices to protect the freedoms enjoyed by American citizens.

The resolution emphasizes the importance of Armed Forces Day, which is celebrated nationwide through various events such as parades, open houses, and educational programs that foster appreciation for military personnel. The Rhode Island House expresses its gratitude to all service members for their dedication and sacrifices. Additionally, the resolution directs the Secretary of State to send a certified copy to Brigadier General Andrew J. Chevalier, the Rhode Island Adjutant General, to formally acknowledge this celebration.
