The House Resolution honors Donna Policastro for her remarkable fifty-six-year career as a registered nurse in Rhode Island, during which she has significantly contributed to the health and well-being of the community. Ms. Policastro began her nursing journey in the emergency room at Roger Williams General Hospital and later took on various roles, including evening charge nurse at Butler Hospital and OB/GYN nurse practitioner after furthering her education. She played a pivotal role in advocating for legislative improvements in nursing practices and was instrumental in founding the Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College Charter School, among other achievements.
In 2005, Ms. Policastro was appointed Executive Director of the Rhode Island State Nurses Association, a position she held for two decades before transitioning to a contract lobbyist for the Nurse Practitioner Alliance of Rhode Island. Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards for her dedication to the nursing profession and her efforts to support fellow nurses. The resolution expresses gratitude for her contributions and wishes her happiness and good health in her retirement, with a certified copy of the resolution to be sent to her.
