The Rhode Island Senate has introduced a resolution, SR 1029, congratulating Burrillville Police Chief Colonel Stephen J. Lynch on his induction into the Rhode Island Criminal Justice Hall of Fame. This Hall of Fame, established in 2012, honors exceptional criminal justice professionals in the state who have made significant contributions to the field. Chief Lynch, a Smithfield native and Rhode Island College alumnus, has had a distinguished career in law enforcement, beginning with his graduation from the Rhode Island State Police Academy in 1986. He has held various positions within the Rhode Island State Police, including Detective Sergeant and Major, and has received numerous commendations for his service.

After retiring from the Rhode Island State Police in 2008, Chief Lynch served as an Assistant Athletic Director at Brown University and was involved in public safety oversight. In 2013, he became the Police Chief of the Burrillville Police Department, where he has focused on community initiatives, particularly in response to the opioid crisis. His efforts led to the creation of the Burrillville Addiction Assistance Program and the Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition, earning him national recognition. The resolution not only celebrates his achievements but also directs the Secretary of State to provide a certified copy of the resolution to Chief Lynch. The resolution was introduced by Senator Andrew R. Dimitri on May 7 and is recommended for immediate consideration.
