The bill amends Section 3-7-19 of the General Laws in Chapter 3-7, which governs "Retail Licenses," by introducing new provisions related to the issuance of Class B liquor licenses. Specifically, the bill allows the board of licenses of the city of Providence to exempt a proposed Class B license intended to be located at 1039 Douglas Avenue, Plat 102, Lot 1 of the applicable city of Providence tax assessment map, from existing proximity restrictions related to schools and places of worship.
Under current law, licenses cannot be granted if the owner of the majority of land within 200 feet of the proposed location files an objection, and they cannot be issued within 200 feet of any public, private, or parochial school or a place of public worship. The bill provides local boards of licenses with the authority to grant exemptions to these proximity restrictions, allowing for flexibility in issuing licenses under certain conditions.
This act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
