The Rhode Island House of Representatives has introduced a resolution to commemorate April 30, 2025, as "National Therapy Animal Day" in the state. This day aims to recognize the significant role that therapy animals, including dogs, cats, and other animals, play in providing comfort, joy, and healing to individuals in need. The resolution emphasizes the therapeutic benefits of animal-assisted therapy, which can enhance self-image, foster responsibility, and improve emotional well-being through the unique bond between humans and animals.
The resolution calls for increased public awareness of the benefits of animal therapy and encourages the Director of the Department of Health and Human Services, as well as all Rhode Island citizens, to advocate for the positive impact of the human-animal bond. Additionally, it directs the Secretary of State to send certified copies of the resolution to relevant organizations, including the Rhode Island Department of Health and Human Services, Paws from the Heart Pet Therapy, and the Windwalker Humane Coalition for Professional Pet Assisted Therapy.
The resolution was introduced by Representatives Handy, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Chippendale, and Ajello on May 01, and has been read and passed in the House.
