The Rhode Island House of Representatives has introduced a resolution to proclaim April 29, 2025, as "Community College of Rhode Island Day" in honor of the college's 60th anniversary. Established in 1964, the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) has grown from 325 students to serving over 40,000 Rhode Islanders annually. The college has developed multiple campuses and offers more than 90 academic programs, becoming a vital resource for accessible public higher education and workforce development in the state.

CCRI has been recognized for its commitment to innovation and student success, including its designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and its role as a leading provider of skilled trades training. The college has also been acknowledged as New England's only Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education. Under the leadership of Interim President Dr. Rosemary Costigan, CCRI continues to focus on transforming lives and strengthening communities through affordable, high-quality education, ensuring that Rhode Islanders have pathways to socio-economic mobility and success.

The resolution was introduced by Representatives Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Chippendale, Noret, and DeSimone, and was read and passed in the House on April 29.
