The Rhode Island General Assembly has introduced a resolution to proclaim May 2025 as Myositis Awareness Month in the state. This initiative, led by Senator Mark P. McKenney, aims to raise awareness about myositis, a group of rare, chronic autoimmune diseases that cause muscle wasting and significantly impact the quality of life for those affected. The resolution highlights the need for increased research, better diagnosis, and treatment options for myositis, as well as the importance of addressing health disparities faced by women and people of color.

The resolution calls on all Rhode Islanders to come together to learn more about myositis and support affected families, emphasizing the role of the Myositis Association in advocating for patients and promoting education and awareness. The Senate encourages community engagement to foster understanding and support for those living with these challenging conditions. A certified copy of the resolution will be sent to the Executive Director of the Myositis Association to further promote the cause. The resolution was introduced on April 28 and has been placed on the Senate Consent Calendar.
