The Rhode Island House of Representatives has introduced a resolution to proclaim May 2025 as "Motorcycle Awareness Month" in the state. This initiative is supported by Representatives Bennett, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, and Chippendale, and aims to promote motorcycle safety and awareness among all road users. The resolution emphasizes the theme "Share the Road: It's Everyone's Responsibility," encouraging both motorcyclists and drivers to adopt safe practices, such as wearing protective gear, obeying traffic laws, and maintaining visibility on the road.

It highlights the significant risks faced by motorcyclists, noting that they are 28 times more likely to die in a crash compared to car drivers, and stresses the need for greater awareness of distracted driving, which poses a serious threat to motorcyclists. The resolution recognizes the Rhode Island Motorcycle Association's efforts since 1974 to advocate for the rights and safety of motorcycle riders in the state. It also underscores the economic and environmental benefits of motorcycle riding, as well as alarming statistics regarding motorcycle accidents and fatalities in the U.S. The House urges all motorists to be mindful of their driving habits and to prioritize safety on the roads. A certified copy of the resolution will be sent to the Rhode Island Motorcycle Association to further support their mission of promoting motorcycle safety and awareness.
