The incident resulted in the deaths of at least 184 individuals and left 155 others injured, prompting a significant rescue operation involving over 300 personnel who worked for more than 12 hours to search for survivors amidst the rubble.

The resolution acknowledges the impact of this tragedy on the Rhode Island community, particularly due to the strong ties many residents have with the Dominican Republic. It emphasizes the collective grief felt across the state and extends thoughts and prayers to those affected by the loss. Additionally, the resolution directs the Secretary of State to send a certified copy to the Dominican Independence and Heritage Award Committee of Rhode Island.
