The Rhode Island House of Representatives has passed a resolution congratulating the Bishop Hendricken High School Mock Trial Team for winning the Rhode Island Mock Trial Tournament for the first time in the school's history. The resolution highlights the significance of the tournament, which is organized by the Rhode Island Legal Education Foundation and involves middle and high school students competing in a rigorous legal simulation. The Bishop Hendricken team, consisting of members Benjamin Warr, Lucas Caporaso, Nathan Viera, Jacob Harrigan, Adam Barboza-Simpkins, Matthew Pappas, Edward Saroka, and Ryan Lopez, was coached by Donna Lynch and attorney Rebecca Warr.
The resolution celebrates the team's historic achievement and wishes them continued success as they prepare to compete in the National Mock Trial Championships in Phoenix, Arizona, from May 7-11, 2025. The House recognizes the educational value of mock trials, which help students develop critical thinking, public speaking, and collaborative skills while deepening their understanding of civics and the legal system. A certified copy of the resolution will be sent to the Bishop Hendricken Mock Trial Team as a formal acknowledgment of their accomplishment.
