The bill proposes the repeal of Section 3-7-19 of the General Laws in Chapter 3-7, which previously restricted the issuance of certain retail liquor licenses (Class B, C, N, and I) based on proximity to schools and places of worship. The existing law prohibited licenses if there were objections from property owners within 200 feet of the establishment or if the establishment was located within 200 feet of a public, private, or parochial school or a place of public worship. The new section 3-7-19 introduces provisions regarding objections by adjoining property owners and proximity to schools and churches.

Additionally, the bill grants city and town councils, as well as boards of licenses, the authority to exempt specific proposed retailer licenses, including Class B, Class BV, Class C, Class I, and Class BL, from certain provisions of the law. This includes specific exemptions for locations in Providence and other cities, contingent upon an application process. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
