LaMontagne, who was married to Lorraine A. LaMontagne, was born in Pawtucket and was an accomplished athlete, earning a scholarship to play football at Boston College. He was a self-taught artist known for his life-sized wood and bronze sculptures, which include notable figures such as Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, and Eleanor Roosevelt, with many of his works displayed in prestigious locations like the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Patton Museum.
Throughout his distinguished career, LaMontagne received numerous accolades, including induction into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame and an Honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts from Rhode Island College. He was also a charter member of the Pawtucket Hall of Fame and received the Distinguished American Award from the National Football Foundation. In addition to his artistic achievements, LaMontagne enjoyed gardening and caring for bonsai trees. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and siblings.
