The bill amends Section 28-9.1-17 of the General Laws regarding "Firefighters' Arbitration." It provides that all contractual provisions in a firefighters' collective bargaining agreement will continue until a successor agreement has been reached between the parties or an interest arbitration award has been rendered. The bill removes the previous requirement for either the bargaining agent or corporate authority to propose changes in writing within a specified thirty-day period for the provisions to continue. Instead, it establishes that the provisions will automatically remain in effect until a new agreement or arbitration outcome is achieved. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
