The bill amends Section 3-7-19 of the General Laws in Chapter 3-7, which governs "Retail Licenses," by introducing new regulations regarding the issuance of Class B, C, N, and I retail licenses. It establishes that licenses for the sale of beverages cannot be granted for locations within 200 feet of any public, private, or parochial school or place of worship, and it clarifies that objections from property owners within this distance will prevent the issuance of licenses.
Additionally, the bill introduces a new section, 3-7-19.1, which specifies that the owner of the greater part of the land within 200 feet of a proposed retail location can file an objection to the granting of the license. However, this section does not apply to any Class B or C license holder whose license was issued prior to January 1, 1978.
The bill also clarifies that exemptions to the prohibition of liquor licenses within 200 feet of schools or places of worship do not eliminate neighboring property owners' rights to object to the license. This act would take effect upon passage.
