The proposed bill amends Chapter 45-53 of the General Laws concerning "Low and Moderate Income Housing" by introducing a new section, 45-53-14.1, which mandates municipalities to report on single-family low- or moderate-income housing. The Rhode Island Department of Housing, in collaboration with the Rhode Island Housing and Mortgage Finance Corporation, will maintain an online database of available rental units and single-family homes for sale that qualify as low- or moderate-income housing. Municipalities are required to provide monthly updates on their inventory of such housing, including contact information for properties available for rent or purchase, starting December 31, 2025.

Additionally, the Department of Housing will send monthly updates to registered individuals interested in low- or moderate-income housing and will compile an annual report detailing the number of such properties indexed by municipality. The bill also stipulates that developers and realtors must provide relevant property information to the department. The information collected will be made publicly available on the department's website by April 2, 2026, and updated monthly thereafter. The department is authorized to create necessary rules and regulations to implement these provisions. The act will take effect upon passage.
