The bill amends Section 42-28.2-8 of the General Laws concerning the Police Officers Commission on Standards and Training. It establishes an equivalency of training certification program within the municipal police training academy. This program allows for the certification of candidates who meet the following requirements: (1) have worked at least one year, full-time as a sworn law enforcement officer; (2) have received training comparable to the standards set forth in subsection (a) of this section; and (3) have no more than an eight-year break in service since their last separation from a sworn law enforcement position. The act is set to take effect upon passage.
