The bill amends the Uniform Controlled Substances Act by reclassifying the simple possession of twenty-eight grams (28 g.) or less of certain controlled substances as a misdemeanor, while also increasing the threshold for possession that constitutes a misdemeanor from ten grams (10 g.) to twenty-eight grams (28 g.) for various controlled substances classified in schedules I, II, III, IV, and V. Additionally, the bill establishes reporting requirements for the chief justice of the district court and the presiding justice of the superior court to provide an annual report to the General Assembly detailing the racial demographics of all parties convicted under this section or related sections. This act will take effect upon passage.
