The Senate of the State of Rhode Island has introduced a resolution, SR 596, expressing profound condolences on the passing of Dr. Joseph J. Box. Dr. Box was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who had a rich and varied life, beginning with his upbringing in a close-knit Italian-American family in Providence. He worked numerous jobs from a young age and eventually found his calling in dentistry after a chance encounter at a dental laboratory. His career was interrupted by his service in World War II, where he served as a Dental Technician in the Navy and Marines, later retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Rhode Island Air National Guard.

Throughout his 65-year dental career, Dr. Box was known for his family-friendly approach and dedication to his community, holding various leadership roles in dental associations and civic organizations. He received numerous awards, including induction into the Pawtucket Hall of Fame and the Dr. Box Everyday Leadership Award from the Rhode Island Dental Association. Dr. Box is remembered for his professional achievements as well as his love of travel, opera, poetry, and yoga. The resolution concludes with the Senate extending its deepest sympathies to the Box family and authorizing the Secretary of State to transmit certified copies of the resolution to his family members.

Introduced by Senators Kallman, Felag, Tikoian, LaMountain, Euer, and Bissaillon, the resolution was introduced on March 04 and is recommended for immediate consideration.
