The bill amends Title 11 of the General Laws by adding a new chapter, Chapter 71, titled "Disarming a Peace Officer." It establishes that any person who knowingly removes or attempts to remove a firearm, deadly weapon, or less-lethal weapon, including but not limited to blunt impact, chemical, or conducted energy devices, from the person of a peace officer or an investigator of the Department of Attorney General will be committing a felony. Additionally, the bill specifies that knowingly depriving or attempting to deprive the officer of the use of a mobile communication device or radio used in the performance of their official duties also constitutes a felony.
If convicted, the individual would face imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not more than five years. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
