The bill amends Section 5-34-31 of the General Laws in Chapter 5-34, which addresses nursing practices and exemptions. It introduces new provisions that allow graduates of approved professional nursing or practical-nursing educational programs to practice under supervision for up to ninety days after graduation before taking the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). This temporary privilege will automatically cease if the graduate nurse fails the NCLEX, and they must obtain their licenses within ninety days of graduation.
Additionally, the bill revises regulations for the licensure and regulation of speech-language pathologists and audiologists in Rhode Island. It establishes new qualifications for licensure, including requirements for good moral character, completion of supervised clinical experiences, and passing a national examination. The bill creates a Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, detailing its composition and powers. It introduces a provisional license for clinical fellows and clarifies that no individual may practice or advertise as a speech-language pathologist or audiologist without proper licensure, thereby enhancing the standards and accountability within these professions.
This act would take effect upon passage.
