The bill amends Section 42-28.2-8 of the General Laws concerning the Police Officers Commission on Standards and Training. It establishes an equivalency of training certification program within the municipal police training academy, allowing for the certification of candidates who meet specific criteria. To qualify for certification, candidates must have worked at least one year full-time as a sworn law enforcement officer, received training comparable to the established standards, and have no more than an eight-year break in service since their last separation from a sworn law enforcement position. The act is set to take effect upon passage.
