The bill amends Chapter 13-13 of the General Laws, titled "Interstate Detainers," by adding a new section, 13-13-9, which requires all state law enforcement agencies, including the division of sheriffs and the department of corrections, to honor all detainer requests and any other holds from the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Under this new provision, any individual subject to a detainer request or hold, of which the state agency has been made aware, must be held in custody until ICE can take custody of that individual. The act is set to take effect immediately upon its passage.
