The Rhode Island Senate has introduced a resolution welcoming the Narragansett Council of Scouting America to the State House and celebrating Scouting Month in February. The Narragansett Council, established in 1910, is a significant youth development organization in the region, serving thousands of youth and promoting leadership, self-sufficiency, and community service. In 2024, the Council welcomed 1,487 new Scouts and their families, and its members contributed nearly 20,000 hours of community service, including food donations to local pantries. The resolution highlights the Council's commitment to inclusivity, particularly for disadvantaged families, and its role in providing enriching programs and outdoor experiences for youth across Rhode Island.
Additionally, the resolution acknowledges the Narragansett Council's successful camping programs, including Camp Yawgoog and the Adventure Base Camp at Camp Champlin, which serve thousands of Scouts and families each year. The Scouts are also proposing a new Leadership and Program Center at Camp Champlin to enhance their offerings and provide year-round programming. The resolution expresses gratitude for the positive impact the Scouts and their leaders have on the community and recognizes the value of the educational opportunities they provide. The Senate has authorized the Secretary of State to transmit a certified copy of the resolution to the Scout Executive and CEO of the Narragansett Council.
