The bill amends Chapter 37-8 of the General Laws, titled "Public Buildings," by adding a new section, 37-8-9.1, which requires the secretary of state to commission a portrait of each president of the senate, including former presidents, shortly after their induction into office. Upon completion, the portraits are to be delivered to the department of administration for display in the senate lounge or a nearby location. The bill also authorizes the state controller to issue payments for the portraits from the treasury, contingent upon the submission of vouchers approved by the secretary of state. This act is intended to honor the presidents of the senate and will take effect immediately upon passage.
