The bill amends Chapter 23-1.7 of the General Laws, titled "Rhode Island Program to Address Alzheimer's Disease," by establishing a new position known as the dementia services coordinator within the Department of Health. This full-time position will be classified within state government and will be responsible for a variety of duties aimed at improving the state's response to Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. These duties include coordinating the department's approach to addressing Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, overseeing the implementation and updating of the Rhode Island Alzheimer's disease and related disorder state plan, assessing and analyzing dementia-related data collected by the state, evaluating state-funded dementia services, identifying and supporting the provision of dementia-specific training programs, establishing and maintaining relationships with agencies and organizations to meet the needs of those affected by dementia, recommending strategies to improve coordination of dementia-related services and resources, identifying grant opportunities to expand services for persons living with dementia, and carrying out other relevant duties as determined by the department.

Additionally, the dementia services coordinator will work in coordination with the advisory council on Alzheimer's disease and related disorders created pursuant to 23-1.7-2. The act is set to take effect upon passage.
