This bill amends Chapter 30-2 of the General Laws to require an official declaration of war or an action by the United States Congress before members of the Rhode Island National Guard can be deployed into active duty combat. The bill specifies that the United States Congress must pass an official declaration of war or take an official action to call forth the National Guard for the purposes of executing the laws of the union, repelling an invasion, or suppressing an insurrection. The governor is responsible for ensuring compliance with this requirement. The bill will take effect upon passage.
