The bill amends Section 5-19.1-31 of the General Laws in Chapter 5-19.1, which pertains to pharmacies, to expand the scope of immunizations that pharmacists can administer. Specifically, it allows pharmacists to administer both influenza and COVID-19 immunizations to individuals aged three to eighteen years, inclusive, rather than the previous age range of nine to eighteen years. Parental consent remains a requirement for all immunizations administered to individuals under eighteen.
Additionally, the bill includes provisions for the electronic reporting of all administered immunizations to the Department of Health within seven days and requires pharmacists to notify the patient's primary care provider within fourteen days, if known. The Department of Health is tasked with ensuring that pharmacists make a good-faith effort to identify the patient's primary care provider for reporting purposes. If a patient does not have a primary care provider, the pharmacist must still fulfill the reporting requirements. This act will take effect upon passage.
