The bill amends Section 5-19.1-31 of the General Laws concerning pharmacies, specifically expanding the scope of immunizations that pharmacists can administer. It allows pharmacists to administer both influenza and COVID-19 immunizations to individuals aged three to eighteen years, inclusive, whereas previously, only influenza immunizations were permitted for those aged nine to eighteen. Parental consent remains a requirement for all immunizations administered to individuals under eighteen.

Additionally, the bill includes provisions for the electronic reporting of all administered immunizations to the Department of Health within seven days and requires pharmacists to notify the patient's primary care provider within fourteen days, if known. The Department of Health is tasked with ensuring that pharmacists make a good-faith effort to identify the primary care provider for reporting purposes. If a patient lacks a primary care provider, the pharmacist must still comply with the reporting requirements. This act will take effect upon passage.
