The Rhode Island General Assembly has introduced a resolution to proclaim February 8, 2025, as "Carrigan Nelson Day" in honor of Carrigan Nelson, a young woman who has demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience in her battle against osteosarcoma, a rare pediatric bone cancer. Since her diagnosis in 2019, Carrigan has inspired many, including fellow cancer patients, through her strength, compassion, and determination. She has actively raised awareness for pediatric cancer, lobbied Congress for funding, and served on several nonprofit boards dedicated to this cause.
The resolution highlights the significance of hope, love, and purpose in overcoming adversity, encouraging individuals of all ages to continue fighting and supporting one another. By designating this day, the Rhode Island Senate aims to honor Carrigan's journey and the journeys of all "Cancer Warriors," recognizing their bravery and the challenges they face daily. A certified copy of the resolution will be sent to Carrigan Nelson as a token of support and recognition.
