The Rhode Island General Assembly has introduced a resolution, SR 159, to proclaim February 8, 2025, as "Carrigan Nelson Day" in honor of Carrigan Nelson, a young woman who has demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience in her battle against osteosarcoma, a rare pediatric bone cancer. Since her diagnosis in 2019, Carrigan has inspired many, including fellow cancer patients, through her strength, compassion, and determination. She has actively raised awareness for pediatric cancer, lobbied Congress for funding, and served on several nonprofit boards dedicated to supporting children with cancer.

The resolution highlights the significance of Carrigan's journey and the message of hope and perseverance she represents. It serves as a reminder for individuals of all ages to continue fighting against adversity and to live each day with purpose and love. The Senate of Rhode Island has authorized the Secretary of State to transmit a certified copy of the resolution to Carrigan Nelson, recognizing her contributions and the impact she has made in her community and beyond.
