The bill amends Section 5-23-1 of the General Laws in Chapter 5-23, titled "Holiday Business," to include Juneteenth National Freedom Day in the definition of holidays recognized for retail businesses. This addition expands the list of holidays that retail establishments must consider, which already includes New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Victory Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day (when designated by the governor), and Christmas.
The act is set to take effect on January 1, 2026.
