The bill amends Section 37-15-7 of the General Laws regarding penalties for littering violations. It increases the fine for a first violation from eighty-five dollars ($85.00) to two hundred dollars ($200) and raises the community service requirement from a minimum of two hours to twenty hours, with a maximum increase from twenty-five hours to forty hours. For second or subsequent violations, the community service requirement is also adjusted, increasing the minimum from four hours to twenty hours while maintaining the maximum at fifty hours.
The act is designed to enhance litter control efforts by imposing stricter penalties and increasing the community service hours required for offenders. It will take effect upon passage.
