The Rhode Island House of Representatives has passed a resolution expressing deep condolences on the passing of Friedrich St. Florian, a distinguished artist and educator. Mr. St. Florian, who was married to Livia St. Florian for 57 years, was born in Graz, Austria, and later moved to the United States through the Fulbright Fellowship program. He earned a master's degree in Architecture from Columbia University and joined the faculty at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 1963. Throughout his career, he held significant academic positions, including Dean of Architectural Studies and Acting Provost at RISD, while also maintaining a successful architectural practice in Providence.

Recognized as one of the most important architects in Rhode Island during the latter half of the 20th century, Mr. St. Florian received numerous accolades and had his work featured in prestigious collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. His most notable achievement was the design of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., a project he dedicated over a decade to complete. The resolution concludes by extending heartfelt condolences to his family, including his wife, daughters, and grandchildren, and authorizes the Secretary of State to send a certified copy of the resolution to the St. Florian family.
