The bill amends existing legislation regarding the notification of fire fighters, police officers, and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) after exposure to infectious diseases. It introduces new legal language to include "coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)" as part of the definition of infectious diseases, alongside human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), and hepatitis C virus (HCV). The bill also expands the definitions section to clarify terms related to contagious diseases, disabilities, and the roles of fire fighters, police officers, and EMTs.

Additionally, the bill modifies the provisions for occupational disability, ensuring that any active fire fighter, police officer, or EMT who is unable to perform their duties due to exposure to an infectious disease is entitled to receive occupational disability benefits. The benefits are now referenced under chapters 19, 21, and 21.2 of title 45, as well as chapter 10 of title 36 for state-employed individuals. This act is set to take effect upon passage.
