The Senate of the State of Rhode Island has introduced a resolution honoring Ruth Ann Madsen, affectionately known as Diamond, for her dedicated service to the community, particularly in advocating for individuals experiencing homelessness. Madsen, who passed away on December 18, 2024, at the age of 56, was a passionate volunteer with various organizations, including the George Wiley Center, Direct Action for Rights and Equality, and the Rhode Island Poor People's Campaign. She was known for her efforts in providing essential supplies to those in need and for her involvement in the Tenderloin Opera Company, which aimed to raise awareness about homelessness through the arts.

The resolution acknowledges Madsen's commitment to improving the lives of her unhoused neighbors and encourages others to follow her example in ensuring dignity for all residents of Rhode Island. It also highlights her personal background, including her upbringing in Connecticut, her love for animals, and her family, which includes her children and grandchildren. The Senate resolution calls for a certified copy to be sent to the Mathewson Street United Methodist Church, where Madsen was actively involved.
