The Rhode Island Senate has introduced a resolution expressing condolences on the passing of Melvin L. Zurier, a prominent figure in the community and a dedicated family man. Mr. Zurier was married to Janet Zurier for 71 years and was born in Providence. He was the first in his family to attend college, earning degrees from Harvard College and Harvard Law School. He served in the United States Air Force Reserve, retiring as a Colonel, and had a distinguished legal career, including serving as Executive Counsel to Governor John Notte and co-founding a law firm that operated for nearly two decades.

In addition to his legal accomplishments, Mr. Zurier was actively involved in public service and community organizations, holding leadership positions such as Chairman of the Rhode Island Ethics Commission and President of Temple Beth El. He is remembered for his tireless work ethic, integrity, and commitment to various charitable and educational initiatives. Mr. Zurier is survived by his four children, eight grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The resolution concludes with a directive for the Secretary of State to transmit certified copies to Senator Samuel D. Zurier and his family.
