The bill amends Section 36-10-9.2 of the General Laws regarding retirement benefits for correctional officers and certain other positions within the Department of Corrections. It adds the roles of "administrator of community confinement" and "home confinement coordinator" to the list of positions eligible for retirement benefits. The bill specifies eligibility criteria for retirement, including age and years of service, and includes provisions for members who were in service as of October 1, 2009, as well as those who have completed varying years of contributory service.

Additionally, the bill allows members who have served both as state employees and teachers to combine their service for retirement eligibility. It also provides for adjustments to retirement benefits for members who retired on or after July 1, 2012, upon request to the retirement board. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
