The Senate expresses its deep sorrow over the passing of Edith Littlefield Blane, a respected and beloved member of her community. Edith, affectionately known as "Edie," was the widow of Edward Blane, mother to Christopher Blane, mother-in-law to Cheryl Blane, grandmother to Melanie Wilk, and great-grandmother to Luke Wilk. She was also a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. Born in South Norwalk, Connecticut, and raised on Block Island, Edith lived in a family home passed down through generations.

Edith Blane was a woman of many talents and achievements. She made history as the first woman elected First Warden on Block Island and served as Town Clerk for sixteen years. Her career spanned various roles, including school secretary, telephone switchboard operator, publisher of the Block Island Hooter, and co-founder of a business with her sister. She also established the real estate company Offshore Property, retiring at 85. Post-retirement, she authored a memoir, "Bound By Blue," and produced a documentary that won accolades at film festivals. A dedicated member of the Harbor Church and a Grand Marshal of the July 4th parade, Edie was known for her love of nature, animals, and her family. The Senate extends its deepest sympathies to the Blane family and directs the Secretary of State to transmit a certified copy of the resolution to them.
