The Senate expresses its profound sorrow at the passing of Edith Littlefield Blane, a respected and beloved member of her community. Edith, affectionately known as Edie, was the widow of Edward Blane, mother to Christopher and the late Peter Blane, grandmother to Melanie Wilk, and great-grandmother to Luke Wilk. She was also a cherished aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Born in South Norwalk, Connecticut, and raised on Block Island, Edith lived a life deeply rooted in family and community, residing in a family home passed down through generations.

Edith Blane was a woman of many talents and achievements. She made history as the first woman elected First Warden on Block Island and served as Town Clerk for sixteen years. Her diverse career included roles as a school secretary, telephone switchboard operator, publisher, business owner, and real estate entrepreneur, retiring at the age of 85. Even in retirement, she continued to contribute to the community as an author and filmmaker, with her memoirs and documentary receiving recognition at film festivals. A devout member of the Harbor Church and a dedicated community servant, Edith's life was marked by her love for nature, animals, and her family. The Senate extends its deepest condolences to the Blane family and directs the Secretary of State to transmit a certified copy of the resolution to Christopher Blane and his family.
