The House of Representatives of Rhode Island expresses profound sorrow at the passing of the Honorable William L. Drapeau, a former member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives and a respected resident of East Providence. William Drapeau, who was married to his wife Elaine for 64 years, had a notable career in public service, including a decade in the Rhode Island House of Representatives. He was also a dedicated family man, leaving behind his wife, two daughters, grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.

William Drapeau's life was marked by his early involvement in sports, his honorable military service in the U.S. Army during the Cold War, and his professional career as a mechanical engineer and later with the Rhode Island Treasury Department. He was an active member of the community, serving on the Rhode Island Democratic State Committee and enjoying membership in the Irish Hibernian Club. His leisure time was often spent traveling with his wife, including memorable trips to Europe and Egypt. In recognition of his service and as a gesture of sympathy, the House has resolved to extend its condolences to the Drapeau family and directed the Secretary of State to transmit a certified copy of the resolution to Mrs. Elaine Drapeau and her family.
