The Senate expresses profound sorrow at the news of the passing of Ronald R. Champagne, who was married to Sally Champagne for 43 years. Ronald was a native of Woonsocket, raised in Cumberland, and an alumnus of Salve Regina University. He was the son of the late Roland and Lillian Champagne. Ronald Champagne had a commendable career as a public servant, dedicating 22 years to the Cumberland Police Department, where he served with distinction and integrity.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Ronald Champagne was actively involved in Rhode Island's civic community before relocating to Florida. He was a lifetime member and Trustee of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Woonsocket Lodge, #850, and served as a Commissioner for the Cumberland Hill Fire District. He also played a role in the establishment of the Town of Cumberland Fire Department. Ronald is survived by his wife, Sally, godchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. The Senate extends its condolences to his family and directs the Secretary of State to send a certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Sally Champagne as a gesture of sympathy.
