The Narragansett Council BSA, part of the Boy Scouts of America, is a significant youth organization in the region, with a long history since its inception in 1910. It has been instrumental in developing leadership, self-sufficiency, and community service among young people. In 2023, the Council has seen the addition of 1,398 new Scouts and their families, and its members have contributed over 25,000 hours of community service and collected substantial food donations for local food pantries. The Council also operates Camp Yawgoog and Adventure Base Camp at Camp Champlin, providing camping, environmental education, and outdoor adventure programs to thousands of Scouts and other youth in Rhode Island.
The Narragansett Council is planning to build a new "Leadership and Program Center" at Camp Champlin to enhance its year-round offerings, including a large meeting space, a STEM "Wet Lab," and a video & tech lab. The Council also offers various educational programs and has welcomed 799 girls into Scouting since 2019. The resolution acknowledges the positive impact of the Narragansett Council on the youth and communities of Rhode Island and welcomes the Scouts to the Rhode Island State House to celebrate Scouting month. The House of Representatives expresses gratitude for the Scouts' contributions and directs the Secretary of State to send a certified copy of the resolution to the Scout Executive and CEO of the Narragansett Council BSA.
