National Hospital Week 2024 is a celebration of hospitals and health systems, as well as the dedicated individuals who support the health and well-being of their communities. This week-long event, which has its roots in National Hospital Day established in honor of Florence Nightingale, is sponsored by the American Hospital Association. It serves as an opportunity to plan and implement public information programs that highlight the essential services provided by hospitals. In the United States, hospitals are responsible for delivering 3.5 million babies, employing 8.3 million people, and providing emergency care to 123 million people. In Rhode Island specifically, hospitals have created over 50,000 jobs and contributed $2.5 billion in net patient revenue, demonstrating a significant impact on both community health and the economy.

The House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island has resolved to recognize May 12th through May 18th as "National Hospital Week." This resolution acknowledges and expresses gratitude to Rhode Island's healthcare professionals for their diligent work in delivering quality health services and for their role in shaping a better future for coming generations. The resolution also directs the Secretary of State to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to Teresa Paiva Weed, President of the Hospital Association of Rhode Island, thereby formalizing the state's recognition of the importance of hospitals and healthcare workers in the local community.
